Simaluguri is a Historical place and presently a prominent Commercial Town situated in Sivasagar District in the State of Assam. The Simaluguri Town is one of the youngest urban local bodies of the state which was notified on 28th November,2002 having 4 (Four) nos wards and now it has 10 (Ten) nos wards as per notification on 3rd September, 2020.
Simaluguri is situated 376 Km. East of Guwahatiin the Sivasagar district of Assam and 12Km.East of the District Head quarter town of Sivasagar. The Gargaon, Capital of Ahoms lies nearby western of the Town. The palace built in 1540 by Ahom king Rajeshwar Singha it is seven stories RoyelPalace. The River Dikhow separates it from Nazira where oil & Natural Gas Commission (ONGC) is situated. Other prominent nearby urban areas are Nazira,Sonari, Amguri and Sivasagar district headquarters town of the district by the same name. The nearby Airports are Raraiya (70Km.west)and Mohanbari.
